Psalm 119:33-40 says, "Teach me your decrees, O Lord; I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money! Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word. Reassure me of your promise, made to those who fear you. Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your regulations are good. I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness." The reason we want God to teach us His Word is so that we can understand His ways and commandments. By understanding them, we apply them in everything we do. Practicing God's teaching in everything we do brings joy because of the peace and assurance that they bring. God is our ultimate security. He is the one who provides us with everything that we need, including money. As a result, we should prioritize loving God over loving money. And if we want God's blessings, we must turn away from our shameful ways.
We must understand that God is our only provider for everything that we need. Guard our hearts from the love of money because money is not the answer to life. 1 Timothy 6:10 says, "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows." The Word of God brings life to us when we practice it in everything that we do. In my personal life, every time I yield myself to the Word of God, I get peace because my conscience is clear, and I am not hiding any sin. I have assurance that God will take care of all my concerns, and I do not need to worry. As a result, I always pray every day that God will help me to walk in His ways and help me turn away from shameful ways.
We can experience God's peace in our hearts today if we walk according to His ways. If we have been stressing out about something, we must surrender it to God, trust in God's promises, and walk in His ways.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What is the importance of understanding God's ways and commandments? Why should I love God more than money? How can I experience God's joy and happiness in my life?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, you are my God and the one who loves and takes care of me. Thank you for your Word because it gives me understanding of your ways and commandments. Please guard my heart from the love of money and help me not to walk in shameful ways. Please continue to renew my life with your goodness and give me an eagerness to walk in your ways today. In your name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
