NEW YEAR: THE DESIRE OF OUR HEARTS

We have all kinds of desires in our hearts this year. The desire of our hearts is what we normally pursue. For example, if we desire to go hiking, we go hiking. If we desire to see a movie, we plan on watching movie. If we desire certain food, we look for them and eat them. However, not all desires are good for us, especially the desires that are sins. As long as we live on this earth, our desires to please God and the desire to please our sinful desires will always conflict. The reason is that our hearts are affected by sin even though we received a new life from God when we believed and surrendered our old life to Jesus. However, no matter how good our new year's resolution is, if our desires are not of God, it will lead us to the lies of Satan. If we cancel God out in our desires, we are looking for trouble in our life.

If we do not read the Bible every day and pray for God's wisdom to guide us, we will be susceptible to being deceived by what we read and hear on social media. For example, if we listen to and watch things on social media or the news more than knowing our Bible, we can be persuaded by the reasoning of this world, especially on the topic of gender, abortion, equality, and values. We must remember that God will judge everything that is not according to the Bible. And everything that is not of God will always lead us to emptiness and despair, ultimately leading us to destruction. We need to read our Bible daily for God to influence our minds and the desires of our hearts. If reading our daily devotion helps us read the Bible, then we must be faithful. We have to persevere in reading our Bible by any means necessary because it is that important in our being.

We have to make a decision today to commit to reading our Bible so that we may know and understand the ways of God. If we truly believe that God's way is better than ours, then we must align our hearts' desires to God's desires written in our Bible. We must remember that the things of this world, such as money, power, beauty, fame, the wisdom of this world, influence, wealth, health, and prestige, will eventually perish. The only things that will last in the end are the ways of God, for our God is eternal.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through carefully and meditate on the questions while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you) What must I do to know the will of God? Why is it important for me to read the Bible daily? What does Satan use to deceive me?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for giving me a Bible, so I can know you and your ways. Please help me to read it daily. Guide me where to start reading your Word. Please give me the desire to know you and be willing to align my desire with your will. Protect my mind from Satan's deceit. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
