One of the things that God does to us when we genuinely believe and surrender our life to Him is that He renews our minds with His truth. Our minds begin to be renewed as we listen, learn, and practice what He teaches us through the Bible. Renewing our minds is a process because we learn a new way of life according to God's truth. As God teaches us His ways, we begin to gain wisdom. A wisdom that is not from the ways and teachings of this world but from God. James 3:17 describes wisdom that comes from God, "But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." However, the wisdom that is not from God harbors bitter envy and selfish ambitions in hearts. James 1:15-16 says, "Such "wisdom" does not come down from Heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice."
As we gain God's wisdom through obedience, we start to think and live our lives differently from the ways of this world. We used to be impatient, but now we are patient with others. We used to think only of ourselves, but now we become considerate of others. We used to live for the material things of this world, but not we live for God. James 3:13 says, "Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom."
As God's children, we need to not give in to the wisdom of this world because it only brings disorder and evil practices that ultimately destroy our life. Let us become wise and live in God's wisdom. Let us listen, learn, and practice what God is teaching us through His Word that our minds be renewed and gain God's wisdom.
Ask yourself these questions: Am I listening, learning, and applying God's Word (Bible) in my life? Do I want to live my life according to God's wisdom or the world's wisdom? What happens when I live according to God's wisdom?
Write down all the worries you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you that you are teaching me the Bible. Please help me listen, learn, and apply your Word so my mind may be renewed and gain your wisdom. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
