KNOWING AND APPLYING GOD'S WORD

The last section of Psalm 19 demonstrates the importance of God's Word in our life. Through the Word of God, we understand what sin is. Sin is the culprit of much of our suffering. We make decisions that lead us to the wrong path because of sin. So, how do we protect ourselves from sin? We protect ourselves from sin by knowing and living out God's Word. David said these words about the Word of God in Psalm 19:10-11, "They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them." Our Bible is the only book in the world that can lead us to life. The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to renew our minds so that we can live righteously. The danger of living in sin is that it always leads to death and destruction. There is nothing good that can come out of sin. It always destroys what is good in us. There is only one way out of sin: to ask God for forgiveness and repent.

David prayed these words, "How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant from deliberate sins! Don't let them control me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin. May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer (Psalm 19:12-14)." Let us not allow sin to control our minds and hearts. We can say no to those secret or hidden sins by confessing them to the Lord and turning away from them. We need to ask God to give us the strength to overcome them and give us the courage to share our struggles with those whom we trust so that we can be accountable to others. We cannot fight our struggle in sin alone. We need others to help and pray for us.

The Word of God teaches us the ways of God and what sin is. Let us not willfully disregard the Word of God in our lives so we may live in life. A life that is free from guilt and shame.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully and meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speaks to you). Why is the Word of God important in my life? Do I have a secret or hidden sin that I'm not willing to confess and repent from? What can I do to free myself from secret or hidden sin?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for your Word. Thank you for teaching me your ways. Please forgive me for all the sins that I have done and cleanse me from unrighteousness. Please change my heart and renew my mind. Deliver from my willful sin that I may be free from guilt and shame. Please give me the courage to be accountable to others because I cannot fight my sin with my own strength. I need others to help me be accountable. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
