KING DAVID PRAYED AND RESTED IN GOD

King David had many enemies when he was the King of Israel. One of his sons betrayed him and deceitfully took his throne from him. He fled and was being pursued by his enemies. He was distressed and felt pressure on all sides. He felt trapped in his situation. However, he had God on his side. He prayed, "Answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent. Free me from my troubles. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer." King David's faith in God never faded. He knew God from his heart and believed in God in his sufferings. He added in Psalms 4:3, "Know this: the Lord takes personal care of the faithful. The Lord will hear me when I cry out to him." Knowing and believing that God heard his prayer, David had confidence in God and concluded Psalms 4 by saying, "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe."

When we are in a situation where we do not know what to do and feel the pressure of our situation, we tend to panic and worry to the point that we cannot eat or sleep. However, we can do what David did when he was in distress. He trusted God. David could sleep at night in his sufferings because he trusted God that He was His protector. The only way to experience the peace of God in our problems is to pray to God and rest in Him. For example, if we are concerned about our future, have financial difficulty, have work or school problems, or have relationship problems, we can pray to God and believe that God will work everything out. We may not understand how He will work everything out, but our God is bigger than our problems. He can take care of us. David had peace in his troubles because of his genuine faith in God.

No matter what we go through today, let us pray to God and completely trust Him. He is bigger than our problems and challenges. He promised that He would take care of us.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully and meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speaks to you). What do I do when I am distressed? Do I trust God that he can take care of me? Do I believe that God is bigger than my problem and that He answers my prayers?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you that I can trust you no matter what is going on in my life. Thank you for reminding me this morning that you are bigger than my problems and can take care of me. Please help me to trust and rest in you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
