JESUS HAS OVERCOME THE WORLD

Jesus said these encouraging words to His disciples when He was about to be crucified on the cross, "I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). For about three years, the disciples had been with Jesus. They had seen Him perform miracles, such as healing the sick, casting out demons, raising people from the dead, multiplying the fish and the loaves of bread to feed thousands of people, calming the storm, and walking on water. They heard Jesus taught the Word of God and how he rebuked the religious leaders. For the disciples, Jesus was God and the Messiah (Savior). However, they could not understand that Jesus came to die on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and on the third day would rise from the dead. As a result, Jesus was preparing them for the sorrow that they were about to experience. Jesus warned them that they would be scattered because of fear. Jesus then encouraged them to take heart because no matter what happened, He had power over everything in this world and nothing would happen to them without going through His hands.

Although Jesus was on the cross, our God the Father was still in control over everything. Jesus' death was necessary for the forgiveness of our sins. The lesson that we can learn from today's devotion is that God knows our hardships and difficulties. Jesus understands our hardships because He Himself suffered on the cross. To deal with our current hardships is to have the confidence that Jesus is with us, guiding and helping us. Let us not lose hope because Jesus has power over everything in this world. We can only have peace in the midst of our trials and sorrows by trusting in Jesus, who already defeated Satan and the system of this world. We can find inner peace even during hardships and difficulties when we let go of control and stop trying to solve our problems with worldly solutions. By being in Jesus' presence through prayer and immersing ourselves in His Word, we can experience His peace. Jesus has the solutions to our problems, and He promised that He will take care of us and will work everything out according to His purpose and plan.

Let us remember that Jesus is the only one who can give us peace in the midst of our hardships and sorrows. Let us completely trust Jesus by having the confidence that He is with us, and He has overcome the world.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How can I have peace in the midst of my hardships and difficulties? What happens if I do not trust Jesus and try to fix my problems in my own way? What is God encouraging me today?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, thank you for reminding me this morning that my Lord Jesus has overcome the world. Please help me to trust you in the midst of my problems and sorrows so that I may experience your peace. Please help me to let go of trying to control my situations, but to surrender everything to you, for you know the right way and have the solutions to my problems. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
