HEAVEN OR HADES

God made us to live only once in our current physical body in this fallen world. When we die, our spirit and soul will not float around in this world, but we will be in the presence of our Heavenly Father in Heaven, where there is no more sorrow, pain, suffering, and sin. Some people believe that when they die, their spirits can visit their loved ones, like ghosts. They will be able to communicate with those who are still alive. There is nothing in the Bible that teaches that. The Bible clearly teaches that when we die, our spirit and soul will be in the very presence of God. We are not going to be in a holding place, like a purgatory. When we die believing in the Lord Jesus, we are saved from our sins because of our faith in the Lord Jesus. Jesus died for our sins so that we can enter boldly in the presence of God. 2 Corinthians 5:8 says, "We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."

The spirits that we see in the horror movies are the evil spirits of the fallen angels who followed Satan when he rebelled against God. They are not our ancestors or loved ones who died. The spirit of the dead cannot be seen because you cannot see a spirit. In the movies, they portray spirits with white shades in them so that you can see their appearance, but in reality, that is nonsense because the spirits of human beings cannot change their appearance. A spirit cannot move objects because a spirit goes through objects. Can you imagine if the spirit of the dead lingers around in this world and can move objects? This world will be in shambles. First of all, the spirits can have their revenge on those who killed them. They can torment those who are still alive because who can kill or stop them? Only the fallen angels can change their appearance because that is the way that God created them. The spirit and soul of unbelievers who died will be in the place called Hades, a place where unbelievers' spirits stay until God's final judgment (Hebrews 9:27). There is no escaping in Hades.

Let us not be deceived by wrong views of life after death. For those of us who believe in Jesus as our Lord and Savior, our spirits and souls go directly to the presence of our Heavenly Father. We do not need to worry because God is faithful to us. Any sins that we have done have been forgiven because Jesus Jesus died for all our sins.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through carefully and meditate on the questions while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you). What happens to my soul and spirit when I die? What must a person do for his or her spirit and soul to go directly to Heaven? Why is my soul and spirit guaranteed to go to Heaven when I die?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for the wonderful hope that I have in you that when I die, my soul and spirit will be with you forever in Heaven. I praise you for giving me eternal life. Please help me to persevere in my faith in you while I am still on this earth. In your name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.
