GOD, THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE

As many people, including Christians, believe that God used the Big Bang theory, there are many Christians, including myself, who do not believe that God used the Big Bang theory because of the timing of creation. According to the Big Bang theory, it took 13.8 billion years to create the entire universe, including the Earth. The Bible clearly states that God created everything in six days, and He rested on the seventh day. On the first day, God created the light, separating it from darkness (Genesis 1:3-5). On the second day, God created the sky/atmosphere, separating the waters (Genesis 1:6-8). On the third day, God created the dry land, seas, vegetation, trees, and seed-bearing plants after their kind (Genesis 1:9-13). On the fourth day, God created the sun, the moon, the stars to give light during the day and night, and the seasons (Genesis 1:14-19). On the fifth day, God created the fish and birds after their kind (Genesis 1:20-23). On the sixth day, God created the land animals and humanity (Adam and Eve) in His image (Genesis 1:24-31). On the seventh day, God finished the creation, and He rested. Genesis 2:2-4 says, " On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth." (7 Days Creation video)

In 1949, Fred Hoyle, an English astronomer, popularized the Big Bang theory that the creation came to be without God. His view of the Big Bang theory became very popular and was accepted by atheists who did not believe in God. Fred Hoyle said, "Religion is but a desperate attempt to find and escape from the truly dreadful situation in which we find ourselves (Harper's Magazine, April 1951). Sadly, our public schools today teach the Big Bang theory as a scientific theory model for the origin of the universe without reference to God. As a result, many students today do not know God. Since they believe that they are the result of an explosion or expansion in space, they cannot find meaning and purpose in life. They can live however they want since there is no God to answer to. However, as Christians, we believe that God created the universe according to the Word of God. We may not be able to explain the intricate details of how God created the universe, but we know and believe that God created the universe with His Word. He commanded, and it came to be. 

We must rest on what our Bible says because it is the Word of God. God created the universe. Colossians 1:16-17 says, "For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." 

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) How many days did God create everything according to Genesis 1? What did God do on the 7th day? Why is believing in God created the universe important to me?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, you are the creator of the universe and everything in it. It is by your wisdom and power that you created everything. I may not know and understand the intricate details of how you created the universe, but I believe that you created everything with your Word. You said it, and everything came to be. I praise you as my God. Please continue to strengthen my faith in you. In your name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
