GOD'S STORY

God gave us the Bible, His Word, to teach us His ways and describe Who He is. When we read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, one thing that stands out is that God is a storyteller from creation to the life of Abraham, from Abraham to King David, from King David to the civil war between the northern and the southern parts of Israel, from the civil war to the restoration, from restoration to the Roman Empire, from the Roman Empire to the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, from Jesus Christ's ascension to the life of the apostles, and the life of the apostles to the second coming of our Lord Jesus, and the new heaven and new earth. Throughout history, God has been present. Great leaders in the past have gone by, but God is still writing the story to raise great leaders. Today, He continues to write our individual stories. Within our stories, God is revealing to us that He is the same God who created us and the universe that we live in. God's story is not only telling us what happened in the past, but it is also telling us what will happen in the future.
The lesson that we can apply in our devotion today is that our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Whatever we are going through today is part of God's story in us. As we trust and follow Him, He helps and sustains us. When we examine our past experiences, there are many times God helped us along the way and even did miracle things in our situations. He allowed us to experience Him because it is part of His story in us. Since God can tell us the story of the future, we should not be afraid or worried about tomorrow because He has already written it. Although we cannot see the future, God can see it. From our birth until the Lord takes us home, God knows everything about us. The apostle Paul described himself this way, "But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace (1 Corinthians 15:10)."
Nothing that happens to us is unknown to God. God is the storyteller from the beginning to the end. God knows our past, present, and future. We must continue to rely on Him, for He knows our life stories.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Describe how I experienced God in the past. If God is the storyteller of my life, what should be my attitude toward my current situation and future? What lesson did I learn from today's devotion?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, you know everything. You know my past, current situation, and future. Nothing surprises you because you are the same yesterday, today, and forever. Please help me not to be fearful or worry about tomorrow, because you are always with me. I have the assurance that my life story ends with you forever. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
