Psalm 119:105-112 says, "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. I've promised it once, and I'll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations. I have suffered much, O Lord; restore my life again as you promised. Lord, accept my offering of praise, and teach me your regulations. My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions. The wicked have set their traps for me, but I will not turn from your commandments. Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart's delight. I am determined to keep your decrees to the very end." Many believe that the Word of God or the Bible is an ancient book, and it doesn't relate to us anymore. However, they have not realized that the Bible is alive and active today because God is alive and active. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." As the Word of God is alive and active, it can guide us where we should go and can light the path where we are walking so that we know where we are going.
God uses His Word to guide us and shine our ways with His truth so that we can walk in the right direction. I remember when I was in the Philippines, walking through the rice paddies. There were narrow paths that I could walk on, but it was impossible to navigate them at night without a light. If you didn't have a light, it was easy to miss the path and end up falling into the muddy rice. Life can be full of challenges and uncertainty at times, and if we are not careful, we can easily fall into all kinds of trouble. However, we have God who can guide us and lead us to the right way, and He uses the Bible to guide us. There was a man who lived most of his life in prison because of all the crimes that he committed. However, when he became a believer in our Lord Jesus in prison, his life changed because he began to apply the Word of God in his life. He acknowledged that he can't live without the Bible because God uses it to guide His life.
God gave us the Bible so that He could guide us and shine a light on our path so that we could see clearly where we are going. If we are unsure of things, let us trust God, and His Word will guide us to the right path.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Why is it important for me to rely on God's Word? Do I believe that the Word of God is still relevant today? Am I willing to spend time with my Bible to read so that God can direct me to the right path?
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them up to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, Thank you for giving me a Bible to read, so I can know your ways and the truth that leads me in the right direction. May your Word continue to guide my decision-making and shine my path so that I know where I am going. Please protect me from straying away from your path that leads me to all kinds of trouble. In your name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
