GOD PROPHESIED TO SAVE US FROM OUR SINS

This week leads to Easter Sunday, and so we will talk about the importance of Easter. Easter is the time when we celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. While some refer to it as Resurrection Sunday, Easter Sunday is a celebration of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection, which offers us new life. Resurrection Sunday began in the Garden of Eden when Adam sinned against God by not obeying God's commandment. When Adam sinned, all his offspring (children), which is the entire humankind, would be affected by his sin. We will all inherit his desire to sin or rebel against God, instead of obeying God (Romans 5:12). As a result, we all became sinners, and the punishment for our sins is eternal death, which is eternal separation from Him in the lake of fire, called hell (Romans 6:23). There is nothing that we can do to save ourselves. Our good works are not enough to be forgiven for our sins (Ephesians 2:8-9). As a result, God had to promise to Himself to save us, because He alone can save us.Â
Â
Right after Adam sinned, God made a prophecy about the Savior who was going to save us. At this time, only Adam and Eve were the human beings on the face of the earth. God prophesied, "And I will cause hostility between you (Satan) and the woman (Eve), and between your offspring (Satan) and her offspring (Jesus Christ). He (Jesus Christ) will strike your head (Satan), and you (Satan) will strike his (Jesus Christ) heel" (Genesis 3:15). Jesus Christ crushed Satan's head on the cross, which is a picture of victory over Satan, and Satan struck the heel of Jesus on the cross. Although Adam and Eve sinned against God, God never rejected them. God provided an immediate solution for humanity's salvation from sin. John 3:16 says, " For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." Praise God for Resurrection Sunday. We would never be forgiven of our sins without God saving us from our sins. Â
Â
We are forgiven of our sins, not because of what we have done, but because of what Jesus did on the cross for us. We celebrate Easter because of Jesus' death and resurrection, not because of bunnies and eggs.Â
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.)Â Why do I celebrate Easter or Resurrection Sunday? Why did Jesus die on the cross? Can I save myself from sin through my good works?
Â
Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, Thank you for making a way to save me from my sins. I was lost in my sin and bound to go to hell, but you sent Jesus Christ to die for my sins. Thank you for your unconditional love. Please help me to meditate on your love this coming Good Friday, when I am going to remember your death on the cross. Thank you for loving and saving me. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.Â
