Psalms 108:6-9 says, "Now rescue your beloved people. Answer and save us by your power. God has promised this by his holiness: 'I will divide up Shechem with joy. I will measure out the valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine, and Manasseh, too. Ephraim, my helmet, will produce my warriors, and Judah, my scepter, will produce my kings. But Moab, my washbasin, will become my servant, and I will wipe my feet on Edom and shout in triumph over Philistia.'" King David wrote this Psalm when Israel was surrounded by its enemies and was pleading with God to save them from their enemies. He reiterated the promised of God that all the territories of Israel and its enemies belong to God. Shechem, the valley of Succoth, Gilead, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Judah are all territories that God promised to Israel. Moab, Edom, and Philistia are all territories of Israel's enemies, but God also owned their lands. Since God created everything, everything belongs to Him, and He has the right to do anything with His possessions. God chose the land of Judah to be the place where all the kings of Israel would come from. Our Lord Jesus was born in Judah, and when He returns the second time, He will reign over the world in Judah as the King of Kings.

All God's promises are based on His holiness. They will all be fulfilled; as a result, we can confidently stand on all His promises to us. No matter how uncertain life in this world is, we have God's promises to carry us through life. God is the ultimate owner of everything in this world, but that doesn't mean that He will get rid of suffering in this world. Suffering in this world is a result of sin, and this is the reason God sent Jesus to save us from this world. This world is passing away and its sin; therefore, God has prepared for us a better place, called Heaven, to live for eternity after our life on this earth is over. It is a place that is no longer susceptible to sin, death, and suffering. Let us be encouraged this year that we have hope and a future because we stand on God's promises. God promised this to us in Philippians 4:19, "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

When worry grips our hearts, let us remind ourselves of God's promises. He will always provide everything that we need because He loves us. He protects us with His loving arms, and nothing can happen to us without going through His hands. When Jesus died for us and rose from the dead, that sealed our salvation and our security in Him.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who owns the earth and the universe? Where do I find my hope? What should my attitude be towards my concerns if I believe that my hope in God will always stand?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, you are my hope and everything. Thank you for your promise that you will take care of me and always be with me. Please help me to walk in confidence that you will take care of all of my concerns. Please forgive my doubting. When fear or worry grips my mind today, please remind me of your promises so that I will walk in your assurance. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
