Psalm 75:7-8 says, "It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall. For the Lord holds a cup in his hand that is full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours out the wine in judgment, and all the wicked must drink it, draining it to the dregs." Our God is the ultimate judge of the wickedness of this world. He is the one who determines who lives and dies. The wine that is talked about in these verses refers to the judgment of God that is for the wicked. The wicked will be consumed with the judgment of God like a drunk person consumed with alcohol. Psalm 75:9-10 shows us how we should respond to this truth as Christians, "But as for me, I will always proclaim what God has done; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. For God says, 'I will break the strength of the wicked, but I will increase the power of the godly.'"
Since God is the ultimate judge of evil or wickedness, we need to proclaim or share God's goodness with everyone. God wants us to be a witness in this world so that the wicked who are still alive will have a chance to be saved by believing in the Lord Jesus. 2 Peter 3:9 says, "The Lord isn't really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent." God wants us to show His kindness and love to the wicked by telling them about what God has done in our lives. The wicked can be referred to as those who are still rejecting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. They don't necessarily do evil things, but it refers to their spiritual conditions. Jesus said, "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters (Matthew 12:30)."
God promises to increase the power of the righteous but break the strength of the wicked, and this is an inspiration for us. We are blessed that God is on our side, but God calls us to be witnesses and proclaim His goodness to the world.
Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) Who is the ultimate judge of the wicked? How should I respond in knowing that God is the ultimate judge of the wicked? Why does God want me to share His goodness with this world?
Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Dear Father in Heaven, please help me to proclaim your goodness and share your love with others so that those who are still rejecting you may have a chance to believe in you and be saved. Please give me the strength to deal with my situation today and do your will. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
