FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: FAITHFULNESS
Faithfulness is the sixth fruit that is mentioned in the fruit of the Spirit. It is about being committed to one's word, promises, or vows. When a person is faithful, we can completely rely on that person because he/she will do whatever he/she promised. Faithfulness is one of God's character. He is always faithful to His children. In Lamentations 3:22-23, it says, "The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning." One of the reasons that we can trust God is that His love for us never ends even when we are unlovable or rebellious. His love for us does not depend on what is happening in our lives, but it depends on His true character.
There was a father who had two sons. The younger son was rebellious and decided to ask his father for his inheritance so that he could leave their house and go wherever he wanted to go and do whatever he wanted to do. Although it was disrespectful to ask for inheritance while the father was still alive, the younger son did it anyway and got his inheritance. So he took off and went to another town. While he was there, he lavishly spent all his money on all kinds of sinful ways. When a famine struck the town, he lost everything, and he ended up working like a slave. Out of his desperation, he decided to go back to his father's house, but he was afraid of his father's reaction to his rebellious actions. He knew that he disrespected his father and put shame on his family, and his father has every right not to accept him back or mistreat him. However, as he was approaching his father's house, his father recognized him, and to his surprised, his father ran to him and hugged and kissed him. For the first time in a long time, he felt his father's faithful love again.
Always remember that God is always faithful to us. When we are doubting or worrying about something, we need to remind ourselves that God is faithful to us. He will always be there for us. Just as God is faithful to us, we need to be faithful to others also. We need to be trustworthy in our words. When we say something that we are going to do, we must do them. The people around us must see that they can trust us with our words because when they know that we are faithful, they will see the character of Jesus in us. God then can use us to draw them close to Him.
Ask yourself these questions: What is faithfulness? Do I believe that God is always faithful to me? How do I show my faithfulness to others?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Father in Heaven, thank you for your faithfulness in my life. Forgive me if I haven't been faithful to you and to others. I pray that you would change my heart and continue to make more like you day by day. Please help me to be faithful or true to my words. Please help me now with (mention your prayer requests). In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
