DO I LOVE GOD?

Psalm 18 is a song that David wrote when God saved him from King Saul and his enemies. The first part of this song expresses David's love for the LORD, "I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies (Psalm 18:1-3)." Since King Saul and his armies and allies pursued David to kill him, David was always surrounded by death. At any moment, he could be captured. David fled from one town to another town or fled to the desert and caves. With all of the hardship that he was going through, God was with Him. God was always by His side. The more David experienced God's faithfulness, the more He loved God. God became his refuge in the desert. When he was physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually tired, God gave him the strength he needed. God became his strong foundation. And when he felt unsure, confused, or lost, God made him secure.

As God gave David strength, guidance, assurance, and direction, so does God provide all these things to us. God will never abandon us, no matter what is going on in our life. If we look back and think how much God has been faithful to us in the past, He assures us that He will take care of us in this present and future. The question is our love for Him. As we experience His faithfulness, can we honestly say we love Him? And if we love Him, is it showing in our daily actions, words, and relationships with others? God's faithfulness should draw us to love and surrender our life to Him. God showed us His great love towards us that while we were still sinners, Jesus died for our sins so that we could be saved (Romans 5:8).

If we do not have love for God and have been experiencing His faithfulness, it is time for us to ask God to change and renew our hearts to love Him. God knows our hearts, and we cannot hide our feelings and emotions from Him. God deserves our love, for He loves us unconditionally.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully and meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speaks to you). Have I experienced God's faithfulness? Describe how God showed His faithfulness in my life? Can I honestly say that I love God?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, You have been faithful to me. You sent your Son, Jesus, to die for my sin so that you could restore my relationship with you through faith in Him. You have been with me all these years and never once abandoned me. You are always there to comfort and guide me. Would you please help me to love you? Change and renew my heart to love you so that I may honor you with my life. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
