CHILDLIKE FAITH

Psalm 116:6-9 says, "The Lord protects those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and he saved me. Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me. He has saved me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling. And so I walk in the Lord's presence as I live here on earth!" There is something about a childlike faith. Childlike faith is all about having a simple, humble, and genuine trust in God that helps us overcome fear and brings out our confidence, courage, and hope. The writer of the Psalmist understood that if he trusted God like a child, he could find rest for his weary soul and experience God's presence in the midst of his suffering. Our Lord Jesus said these words regarding childlike faith, "Let the children come to me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children. I tell you the truth, anyone who doesn't receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it (Luke 18:16-17)." Jesus wants us to receive or trust in Him like a child in order for us to enter His Kingdom, because when we have a childlike faith, we do not trust in ourselves for our salvation, but only trust in the life and works of our Lord Jesus.

Almost every day, we encounter all kinds of challenges in life. It seems like we are on a boat journey. Sometimes we experience smooth sailing; other times, we encounter rough seas, and at times, we find ourselves in the middle of a storm, on the verge of capsizing. Regardless of where we are in situations, one thing that helps us to remain calm is our childlike faith in God. It is a different feeling when we know that God is holding us and keeping us safe in His loving arms. Our security is not based on our strength and wisdom, but our security is completely dependent on God's provision and strength. We believe that God loves and cares for us as His children. There are times when I am overwhelmed and anxious, but when I start to pray and ask God for help, I begin to calm down and rest in His sovereign power, love, mercy, and grace. I know that He heard my prayer, and He will take care of all my concerns.

Let us continue to develop our childlike faith in God. Instead of us keeping on worrying about our situations, let us find rest in God by trusting in Him with simple, humble, genuine faith that helps us overcome fear and brings out our confidence, courage, and hope.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What is a childlike faith? What should I do when I am overwhelmed and anxious? Have I trusted God like a child?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, you are my God and the one who loves and cares for me. Please help me to trust in you like a child with simple, humble, genuine faith. Please help me to rest in your sovereign power completely, and believe with all my heart that you will take care of everything that concerns me, so that I can have peace and praise you in the middle of my problems. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
