Where is God when we need Him?

One evening, Jesus told His disciples to get in the boat to go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, which is like White Rock Lake, but only bigger. Once they got in the boat, Jesus took a nap in the back of the boat because He was exhausted from ministering all day. While he was asleep, a sudden fierce, strong wind started hitting the boat with water. The disciples knew that they were in great danger because they were in the middle of the sea, and it was at night. Out of panic, they woke up Jesus and said, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” Jesus then got up and rebuked the fierce wind by saying, “Hush, be still.” At that moment, everything became perfectly calm. Jesus turned around and said to the disciples, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

There are times when we go through life and wonder, “Where is God in all of our situations?” We doubt His presence, especially when we go through situations that are very difficult or painful for us to understand. When the disciples were in the middle of the storm, they thought they were going to die. They were panicking, and they felt that Jesus did not care about their situation. Similarly, we sometimes feel the same way. We think that God does not care about our situation. He seems silent and not doing anything, like He is sleeping, or not care at all. However, Jesus was always with His disciples in the midst of the storm. Jesus never left them. He was with them in the storm and experiencing the same thing that they were experiencing.

When we go through our difficult and painful situations, Jesus is always with us and understands what we are going through. He walks with us and helps us to go through our circumstances. God allows us to go through difficult and painful situations in our lives so that He can show us His power. After Jesus rebuked the fierce wind, the disciples learned that Jesus had authority over nature. As we experience His power in our lives, we will get to know Him more. Thus, it is going to strengthen our faith in Him. In the midst of our problems, we need to continue to fix our eyes on Jesus and trust in Him. And by His power, He is going to carry us through.

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in heaven, thank you for helping me to understand that you are a powerful God that understands all my fears and struggles. Thank you that you want me to trust you because you care about me. Please help me to believe in you, especially when I am doubting. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
