THE GREATNESS OF KING XERXES AND MORDECAI

At the end of Esther's story, King Xerxes imposed a tribute throughout his empire about his great achievements and the full account of the greatness of Mordecai. Mordecai became the prime minister, with authority next to King Xerxes. Mordecai became great among the Jews because he continued to work for the good of his people (Esther 10:1-3). While Mordecai was the prime mister of the Medo-Persian empire and Esther was the Queen, the Jews continued rebuilding the city and the temple in Jerusalem. Eventually, Alexander the Great of the Greek Empire defeated and destroyed the Medo-Persian Empire in 331 B.C.

The book of Esther reminds us that God is near to those who put their faith in Him. Esther became Queen because God was at work in her life. God put her in that position because God planned to use her to save her people from their enemies. The event in the Book of Esther is one of the instances where the Jews almost got annihilated. If Haman succeeded in destroying all the Jews, we would not have our Lord Jesus, for Jesus came from the Jews. Satan influenced Haman to destroy the Jews to stop our Savior from coming to save us from our sins, but Satan failed. God has the victory in the end. When Esther was going through an impossible situation, God intervened. God gave Esther favor in King Xerxes' eyes. When Mordecai was about to be hung the next day, God made King Xerxes read the history to find out what Mordecai had done to save him.

No matter what we are going through today, our God has the victory for us. Job 42:2 says, "I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted." There is no situation that is too great that God cannot resolve. Let us continue to walk in our faith in God through our Lord Jesus because our God is and will always be in control.

Ask yourself these questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully and meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speaks to you). How did Esther and the Jews survive during the Medo-Persian Empire? Is there anything too difficult for my God? How is my walk in faith in God today?

Write down all the worries you face today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, you are always in control of my situation. Please forgive me if I haven't trusted you enough. Please help my unbelief and try to handle my life on my own instead of trusting in you completely. Eventually, I will face something bigger than I can handle or understand and run humbly before you. Thank you for your love, mercy, and grace towards me. In your name, Jesus, I pray, Amen.
