THE FOUNDATIONS OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

The foundation of our relationship with God is His love and our trust or faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 11:6 says, "And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him." Believing in God means to trust His Word. We need to surrender everything to Him, including our very lives. There are many things that we do not completely understand about God because He is infinite and we are not. Isaiah 55:9 says, "For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts." Since His wisdom and ways are above and beyond what we can imagine and think, it does not mean that God is so high that we cannot know Him. Our Lord Jesus Christ revealed Himself, our God the Father, and the work of the Holy Spirit to us—the Triune God (John 1:8). All the miracles that Jesus had done during His earthly ministry are there to prove that God is near to us and that He loves and cares about us. He showed us how to have relationships with God and be forgiven of our sins.

With that in mind, we do not have excuses for not believing and surrendering our very lives to God. Trusting Him includes believing that everything in the Bible is His Word, and that we must apply it in our lives by allowing it to speak into our hearts and minds. All the sufferings that we are going through will make sense to us someday when we see our God face to face. We may not understand what God is doing in our lives at this moment, but we must trust that everything that He allows in our lives, He has a purpose and a plan to use them for our own good. As a result, we must trust what His Word says. If we want to see God's mighty work in our lives, we must believe and surrender all our ways to Him, which includes the way we live our lives on a daily basis. We need to correct our sinful lifestyle and trust in His righteous ways. We need to correct our way of thinking by aligning it with what the Bible says. 

God gave us His Word so that we can know how to trust and believe in Him. Let us trust our God today, no matter what we are going through. He revealed Himself to us through our Lord Jesus because He cares and loves us.

Questions for application: (Think through these questions carefully, meditate on them while answering them, and let the Spirit of God speak to you.) What are the foundations of my relationship with God? Do I believe in God according to the Bible? Do I believe and surrender my life to God? If yes, how should I live my life and think on a daily basis?

Take a moment to write down all your worries today. Then, lift them to God in prayer, surrendering them to His will and trusting in His guidance.

Prayer:

Dear Father in Heaven, you are God. Your ways and wisdom are higher than mine. There are many things in life that I do not understand, but I trust in you and surrender my life to you. Thank you for revealing yourself to me through my Lord Jesus. Please help me to live and think according to your Word, especially with everything that is going on in my life today. Please help me to trust you. In your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen.
