There was a night when Jesus told his disciples to get into the boat to go on the other side of the sea of Galilee, and He would follow them after he finished praying on a mountainside. As the disciples rowing along in the sea of Galilee, they encountered waves and strong winds. Shortly before dawn, Jesus caught up with them walking on water. The disciples thought that He was a ghost, but Jesus told them that it was Him and not to be afraid. Peter then, with excitement, asked Jesus if he could come to him on the water. Jesus granted him his request, and Peter got off the boat and started walking on water, but as he was walking on water towards Jesus, he took his eyes off of Jesus and looked at the waves as he felt the strong wind against him, so he became afraid and started sinking. He then cried out to Jesus to save him, and Jesus reached out his hand and caught Peter. When they got into the boat, the wind died down (Matthew 14:22-33).
When Peter saw Jesus walking on water, he had so much confidence in Jesus that when Jesus granted him to come to Him, he got off the boat and started walking on water towards Jesus. Peter overcame his fear against the waves and the winds because of His faith in Jesus. He was able to accomplish something that was beyond his capabilities because Jesus enabled him to walk on water. Peter experienced the power of God working in him because he trusted in Jesus. However, when he fixed his eyes on the waves and the winds, he became afraid that he started sinking. Peter was gripped with fear when he took off his eyes on Jesus.
Let us looked at our challenges and problems through the lens of our faith in our Lord Jesus. No matter what we are facing today, we can walk on them through the power of our Lord Jesus, just like Peter walked on the waves and against the strong wind. Our Lord is always with us and active in our lives. When we feel our anxiety and fear, let us put our confidence in our God by pouring our problems to God through our prayers. No matter what happens, God is always there to rescue us.
Ask yourself these questions: Why did Peter start to sink? What should I do to overcome my fear in my situations? Do I believe that God is always there to rescue me?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you for being my security through my Lord Jesus Christ. Please help me to trust in you when I am fearful. Lord Jesus, please help me fix my eyes on you, and believe that you are always there to rescue me. Please help me to walk in confidence in you. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
