Our salvation from our sin is a complete work of our God. There is nothing that we can do to save ourselves from our sins. We are sinners not because of what we have done, but because we are born a sinner. Sin entered our lives, even when we do not know how to sin. We sin because of our sinful nature. For example, no one taught us to lie when we were still children. Since we were helpless to save ourselves from sin, our Lord Jesus Christ died for us at the right time. He had to come into our world and die on the cross to pay the penalty of our sin. There is no amount of good works that we could pay our sin, nor anything that we could do to take away our sin. It is only by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ that we are saved.
There was a teenager who was always in trouble because of his lifestyle. He didn't care about school, and he always smoked drugs and drank with his friends. One day, while he was high in drugs, he decided to drive his parents' car. As he was driving, he lost control of the vehicle and hit and killed a boy walking on the sidewalk. The police arrested him and took him to jail. During the sentencing, the judge gave the boy the death penalty for his crime. However, the father of the boy who died stood up and said to the judge, "I forgive this boy. I would never have my boy back, but I want to give this teenager a chance to live, so I want to take his place, for I know that only by dying can he pay his crime." The judge, the teenager, and the people in the court were amazed by the father's action.
The only penalty for our sin is death (Romans 6:23). Jesus loved us so much that He died on our behalf so that we could live. Today, remember how much God loves us. We are special and very important to Him. At the right time, while we were still helpless in our sin, our Lord Jesus died for us.
Ask yourself these questions: what did Jesus do to save me from my sin? Is there anything that I could have done to save myself from the penalty of my sin? How should I respond to what Jesus had done in my life?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
