Many people believe that they are Christians because they were born in a Christian family, but this has confused many people. As we talked about it yesterday's devotion, true Christianity means "the follower of Jesus or people who believe and live for Jesus Christ." Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me." (John 14:6). Anyone who wants to become a Christian must go through our Lord Jesus. And to go through Jesus, we must believe in Him. Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved."
Believing in the Lord Jesus from our hearts means surrendering our life to Him. We make Jesus our Lord and Savior. Anyone who is not willing to genuinely believe in the Lord Jesus is not a true Christian. I know that this can be challenging to accept for some, but this is what the Word of God teaches. Being a good person will not make a person Christian. Going to church every Sunday will not make a person Christian. Only by genuinely believing in the Lord Jesus can a person be a Christian.
When we believe in the Lord Jesus, we become children of the Most High God. John 1:12-13 says, "But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God." True Christianity is about becoming a child of God. It is a relationship with God and not a religion. As children of God, we have direct communication with God through prayer. As we believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, let us be confident that we belong to God and that He is with us and for us. We can say to ourselves that we are Christians.
Ask yourself these questions: How can a person be a Christian? What do I become when I genuinely believe in Jesus as my Lord and Savior?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you for showing me in Your Word that I am a Christian through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and not through my good works. Thank you for adopting me as your child. May you please continue to teach me how to live in this world as a follower of my Lord Jesus Christ. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
