God's immutability means that He does not change in character and nature. The reason He does not change is that He is complete. God does not mutate or evolve to something over time, but He stays the same forever because He is perfect in character, nature, and power. As human beings, we change over time—our character changes as we mature in life, and our body changes as we age. However, God remains the same. Jesus said, "I am the same yesterday, today, and forever." (Hebrews 13:8). Regardless of whether people believe in Him or not, it does not change the fact that He is the same God from the beginning of time.
The sons of Jacob in Malachi 3:6 refers to the nation of Israel—His chosen people. The nation of Israel was chosen by God to become His representative nation to the rest of the world. They supposed to attract the other nations to follow God by the way they live their faith in God. However, they became unfaithful. The nation of Israel decided to pursue other gods and worship idols that they created. As a result, God disciplined them for their unfaithfulness, but He never rejected them as His people because He made a promise that they would always be His people.
God's immutability is very encouraging to us because we know that God will always be the same. His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake will remain forever. Regardless of what is going on around us, we can rest assured that God is with us. His love for us will never change, even when we feel like we are unlovable or failed Him miserably. His love for us is always constant; He cannot love us less or love us more. One of the verses that God uses to remind us that He is at work in our lives is Philippians 1:6, it says, "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns." It is comforting to know that God is the one who is changing us to become more like Him. He is the one who began a good work in us, and He is the one who is going to finish the good work in us until He returns for us. Be encouraged today that God never changes. His promises will remain forever.
Ask yourself these questions: What is immutability? How does it affect my current situation, knowing that God never changes? How does God's immutability encourage me?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
