FORGETTING THE THINGS BEHIND

God wants us to enjoy and live in the freedom that He has given us. Our past no longer bounds us. God has given us a new beginning in life by rebuilding our lives from our broken past. Many people allow their past failures, mistakes, and disappointments to dictate what they can do in their present time; as a result, they are stuck in their past. They are afraid to move forward for fear that they are going to fail again. But God is telling us to trust Him. It is not about what we think of ourselves but what God thinks about us. It is not about what we can do, but what God can do in and through us.

The apostle Paul said this, "Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead." When the apostle said forgetting the past, he was not saying to erase his past from his memory. It is impossible for any human being to erase their past because our past is imprinted in our memory brain. What the apostle Paul was alluding to was that He wasn't allowing His past to dictate his life, but he was looking forward to what God would do in and through His life.

When we fix our eyes on Jesus and trust in Him completely, we will be able to move forward with confidence in Him. We will be able to be free from our past failures, mistakes, and disappointments. Satan and the world see us what we are in the past, but God sees us on what He has done and what He will do in our lives. And this is what it means when the verse says, "the past is gone, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17). God has freed us from our past so that we can enjoy His freedom. So let us live with confidence in Him today. When Satan tries to tempt us to walk in fear because of our past failures, mistakes, and disappointments, let us remind ourselves not to allow our past to dictate what we can and cannot do but to trust in God and move forward with confidence in Him.

Ask yourself these questions: Do I believe that God has freed me from my past? Since God has freed me from my past, what does God expect me to live my life?

Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you for setting me free from my past failures, mistakes, and disappointments. Thank you that my life belongs to you. Please help me not to live in fear anymore, but to live with confidence in you, for you have my life in your mighty hands. Please help me now with (mention your prayer requests). In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
