Psalms 86:11 (Weekly Devotion)

Updated: Nov 12, 2019

As believers of our Lord Jesus, we have the wonderful privilege to be God’s children. The Bible teaches us that God loves us and He will always be there for us. If we have problems, we can pray to Him to help us. If we have needs, we can ask Him to provide us for our needs. If we are sick, we can ask Him to heal us. However, God is not only there to help us and provide for our needs, but He is also there to be the LORD of our lives. It is sad that many Christians only what God can give them, but they do not want God Himself. It is similar to liking a pair of shoes that we receive but do not like the one who give us the pair of shoes. The biggest reason that many people do not want God is because they just want to do what they want to do regardless of what God thinks. In the time of our Lord Jesus, many people wanted Jesus to heal them, but they did not want His teaching because it goes against their lifestyle.

It is true that God is the giver of blessing, and it is true that God has a wonderful plan for His children. However, God only blesses and guides those who truly want Him. When king David wrote this verse, he was crying out to God to teach him His ways so that he could walk in the truth of God. King David knew that the only way to have a successful and fulfilling life on this earth was to walk in God’s truth. He also asked God to give him a pure heart so that he could honor the name of God. Because king David wanted God in his life, God blessed his kingdom abundantly. God made Him the most powerful king in His time. He defeated all his enemies and became very wealthy.

If we want to have a wonderful and successful life, we need to ask God to teach us His ways so that we can live our lives according to His truth and to give us a pure heart so that we can honor His name in everything that we do. Let us love God more than the things that He gives us. Living in God’s truth is like walking in the light; we can see where we are going. On the contrary, living outside of the truth of God is like walking in the dark; we cannot see where we are going. So let us learn the truth of God through His word in order for us to walk in His truth and honor His name in everything that we do.

Write Down the challenges that you are facing today and lift them up to God.

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, thank you that you are truth. Please teach me your ways so that I can live my life according to your truth. I want to live according to your truth because I do not want to walk in darkness. Also, please give me a pure heart so that I can honor your name in everything that I do. Do not let the ways of this world influence my mind and my heart. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
