In any relationship, 2-way communication is essential. Without 2-way communication, we will not be able to understand each other. Many families are broken, and marriages are falling apart because of a lack of communication. God created us as relational human beings; therefore, we need 2-way communication. It is the same way in our relationship with the Lord. We need 2-way communication. God has given us access to talk to Him through our prayers, and He has given us His Word (the Bible) to speak to us. Often, we communicate to God through our prayers, but we are not allowing Him to communicate to us through His Word. We can have several Bibles in our house, but we are seldom reading them. We can respect the Bible in itself, but God does not intend it that way. God intended it for us to read our Bible so that He can speak to us with His truth.
Here is what Jesus said about His Word (the Bible), "But he answered, 'It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" (Matthew 4:4). As Christians, we need the Word of God in our lives. Not to keep and store it in our room, but to read it daily. The Bible will not mean anything to us even if we have it if we are not going to read it. As we open our Bible and pray that God would help us understand what we are reading, God would then reveal Himself to us. The more God reveals Himself to us, the more we will get to know Him, and that is where our relationship with Him grows. God longs to reveal Himself to us because He loves us. He wants us to get to know Him through His Word.
Let us keep reading our daily devotion and let the verse speak to us and meditate on them. For example, the main verse today is Matthew 4:4. Let us not just read it, but think about it and find out what God is telling us through the verse. I can also encourage us to start reading the book of Mark or other books in the Bible. We can read it by section, story, or chapter. We will be surprised how our Lord would reveal Himself to us. Our faith in Him would continue to grow, and we will continue to get to know our Savior in a very personal way. We need to remember that our relationship with God is always a 2-way communication: we speak to Him through our prayers, and He speaks to us through His Word (the Bible).
Ask yourself these questions: Am I allowing God to speak to me through His Word daily? Do I believe that God longs for me to hear Him speak to me through His Word?
Write down all the worries that you are facing today and lift them up to God.
Prayer:
Father in Heaven, thank you for giving me your Word (my Bible). Please help me read it daily to get to know you in a very personal way. Please give me the hunger to read your Word that you may speak to me and direct me to the right path. Please give me an understanding of your Word as I read it. In your name Jesus, I pray. Amen.
